Bike Angels

Branding a Charity on the Move

The Project

I got an email from a dear friend with a graphic design emergency, which is easily my favorite kind of emergency. She and her friends run a wonderful charity, wherein they buy 100 bicycles, 100 helmets, and 100 bike locks. They distribute these bicycles for holiday gifts to deserving, needy children in the Pittsburgh area. This wonderful organization started out with just a group of a few friends, but because of their amazing work, has gained more visibility in Pittsburgh. So, they wanted a logo! After sending me a great concept sketch, I went to work. Concept #1 was basically a professional polish on their sketch—an exact translation. The other two were wild departures from the original sketch, designed to make their group distinct from other nonprofit organizations that go by a similar name and even use variations of the winged bicycle logo. I was tickled pink when the group chose concept #3—a kid-friendly yet street-cool image full of whimsy—perfect for this incredible group of do-gooders. This image matches their energy and intensity, and should look great on a powerpoint, t-shirt, or even a sticker to put on a helmet. If you’re looking for something fulfilling to do for this holiday season, why not buy a bike for this great group? Pool your resources at the office or within your family—nobody likes that “Yankee Swap” game, anyway. Shoot me an email, and I’ll get you in touch with the Bike Angels for more information.
